ABOUT

ABOUT

Cley next the Sea

The original Norfolk Coast Cottage (Gladden) is situated in the beautiful coastal village of Cley next the Sea.

The cottage is stylish, quiet and comfortable.

It has 3 great sized bedrooms accommodating up to 8.

Ideally 4 adults and 4 children maximum.  Dog friendly accommodation (max 2 dogs).

2 double bedrooms and a bunk bed room (2 bunk beds sleeping 4 children).

We bought the cottage at the end of 2018 and have completely renovated the interior Spring/ Summer 2022 .

Situated on the North Norfolk Coast (An Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty)  Cley next the Sea is 3 miles north of the Georgian market town of Holt and situated on the coast next to Blakeney, Wiveton and Salthouse.

The cottage is in a quiet spot, tucked away down it’s own driveway, but really close to the Norfolk Coast Path, fantastic pubs and village shops, including an amazing deli.

The area is great for family holidays, walking, birdwatching, stately homes and crabbing. Cley beach is only 10 mins walk away.

There are many great places to eat and drink in the villages of North Norfolk, opportunities for seal watching and sand dune jumping, as well as loads of historic buildings, gardens and steam railways. There is always something new to discover when visiting.

SEE & DO

THINGS TO DO

Beaches

Shingle beaches / Sandy beaches are all close by. Walk to Cley beach. A short drive to Wells next the Sea and Holkham Beaches.

Walking

The Norfolk Coast Path offers an ideal way to explore the natural beauty of the coastline, taking in salt marshes, working harbours and miles of sand dunes.

Seal Watching

The largest seal colony in England can be found at neighbouring Blakeney Point. Trips to see the seals depart from Blakeney or Morston Quay.

Bird Watching

Norfolk is often described at the birdwatching capital of Britain with many rare visiting birds. Cley Reserve is on our doorstep and many other reserves are nearby providing birdwatching opportunities all year round.

Stately Homes

Norfolk is a remarkable county for history with many medieval houses, castle ruins and stately homes.  On our doorstep are Holkham Hall, Felbrigg Hall, Hindringham Hall and just a little farther Blickling Hall, Oxburgh and of course Sandringham - the Royal family's rural retreat.

Crabbing

We think the best crabbing or gillying (Norfolk expression) spots are Blakeney and Wells Quay. A treat to have pancakes afterwards at Wells on 'The Albatros' an 18th century North Sea sailing boat, permanently moored on the quay!

Outdoor Adventure Centre

Close by is Hilltop Outdoor Adventure Centre where activities include: High Ropes, The Big Zipper, Super Swing, Climbing Wall, Archery, Tree Top Trial & The AIR JUMP.

Watersports

Paddleboarding and sailing locally.

Just hire or tuition available.

Fossil Hunting / Rock Pooling

Nearby Sheringham, East and West Runton and Cromer are great areas for rock pooling and fossil hunting.

GUEST REVIEW

"We stayed in this lovely cottage with our 2 kids and had such a lovely time.  The location in Cley is perfect as everything is within walking distance, but it’s away from the main bustle of the village so very quiet.  Very clean and tidy and had everything we required for an enjoyable comfortable stay.  Cley is the ideal location to explore North Norfolk and the coast, and the walks are incredible from there.  We’ll definitely be back!"
